Throughout the world, Home Economics is celebrated each year on 21 March. The International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) initiated World Home Economics Day as a worldwide celebration of the Home Economics profession. The IFHE is an International Non Governmental Organisation (INGO) in consultative status with the United Nations (ECOSOC, FAO, UNESCO, UNICEF) and with the Council of Europe.

Derived from the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) 2005-2014, the theme for World Home Economics Day 2005 is Home Economics: Supporting sustainable development and quality of life for all.

Larnook Teachers College, Melbourne was established in 1952 to train teachers of home economics and textiles for secondary schools in the state of Victoria. The Larnook Ex-Students’ Association was formed in 1956 as a way of keeping new teachers in contact with each other for emotional and professional support. Nowadays, it is more a means of individuals keeping in contact with their year level colleagues.

The Executive consists of:

President, Coral Sundblom coralfish@ozemail.com.au
Secretary, Von Canty voncanty@iprimus.com.au
Treasurer, Judy Ryles jryles@maconline.com.au

Annual subscriptions are $15.00 (no GST) This entitles you to two bulletins each year representing information from years 1952-1982. Reunions are organised by year representatives and these dates will appear on this website.
