Home Economics Victoria is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Provider Number 21603. Home Economics Victoria is now registered to deliver Certificate II Hospitality (Operations) THH21802 that can support the needs of teachers delivering VET hospitality in schools.

To deliver and assess units from the Certificate II Hospitality (Operations) THH21802 for VET Hospitality in schools teachers must:

Training must be delivered by a person who holds TAA40104 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the (TAA04) Training and Assessment Training Package, or can demonstrate equivalent competencies.

TAA40104 applied from the 24 November 2005 for any new trainers. For those who hold BSZ40198 - Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training from the (BSZ98) Training Package ‘Assessment and Workplace Training’, this will also be accepted as equivalent for the purposes of this standard.

Assessment must be conducted by a person who has the following competencies from the TAA04 Training and Assessment Training Package:

  • TAAASS401A Plan and organise assessment;
  • TAAASS402A Assess competence;
  • TAAASS404A Participate in assessment validation

Assessment can be conducted by those who hold the equivalent units (BSZ401A Plan assessment, BSZ402A Conduct assessment, and BSZ403A Review assessment).

The person must also be able to demonstrate vocational competencies, at least to the level of those being delivered and assessed.

As VCE VET Hospitality units are at Certificate II level (Certificate II in Hospitality (Operations) THH21802), you need to be able to demonstrate vocational competencies confirmed by an appropriate qualification, or a Statement of Attainment for the relevant units of competency you are delivering and assessing.

In the Hospitality Training Package demonstrated vocational competencies usually includes three (3) years recent and relevant industry experience.

Finally, it is strongly recommended that the person involved in training and assessing VET Hospitality also undertakes the Hospitality Industry Update Program every 2 years to gain a Certificate of Industry Recognition from Service Skills Victoria and therefore ensure currency with industry practices. Service Skills Victoria is now operating this program with Home Economics Victoria in place of the AHRP Industry recognition, which is no longer being auspiced by SSV.

Introduction to Hospitality  Course August 2008

Introduction to Hospitality is an industry endorsed training program which consists of the five core units of competence from the hospitality training package and is specifically designed for secondary teachers.

The programs are reviewed annually by the committee and a continuous improvement process is undertaken regularly by SSV and Home Economics Victoria. Recognition is provided on the certificates received at the completion of the programs that are industry recognised programs.
